I agree I disagreeThe red thread of the Chess Game leads us to another... red beauty: the Marostica cherry PGI.
This link with history and the territory, as specified in the regulations issued by the Consortium that gathers cherry producers, dates back to 1400 and still calls into question the history of the "chess game". In the year 1454, after the dispute settled by the well-known "game" that resolved a fight risking to end up in war, Taddeo Parisio, the castle keeper and governor of the "land and noble castle of Marostica", ordered the planting of cherry trees throughout the territory in memory of the auspicious event on the wedding day of his daughter and her sister.
The existence of a cherry market in the Marostica area, which has been held annually since 1950, confirms the vocation of the area for cherry growing. It is no coincidence that a Strada delle ciliegie (lit. Cherry Road) is present in this territory, starting off in Bassano and connecting the hills and villages involved in the production of cherries (the "Marostega, siarese and scachi..." cherries). The historical event is remembered during the "Provincial Cherry Exhibition", which is held annually in the production area on the last Sunday of May, with the election of two young women who will play the role of the brides during the historical re-enactment. The day rewards the best products from the various "cultivars". Tasting events, excursions and entertainment is worth a visit.
