To live in Former monastery of San Fabiano e Sebastiano

On top of the eastern slopes of the Pauso hill, the ruins of the compound of the church and convent of San Fabiano  e  Sebastiano overlook Bocca di Valle. This site initially hosted a Benedictine settlement, documented since 1259. Afterwards, the religious re-foundation of the place was due to the Friars Minor (Observant) around 1483-1486. The church was consecrated in 1494. Initially, the compound had small dimensions, but it was enlarged at later stages. The two cloisters with a cross vault, the enlargement of the southern body and the church date back to 1640-1645. The height of the bell tower too was increased. In the 1700s, the church, which had two naves at the time, was enlarged to the north by adding a new chapel and it reached a number of eight altars. The Napoleonic suppression of the convent (1810) marked the beginning of the progressive collapse of the church (only some traces of the arched apse are now visible), of the cloisters and the bell tower, struck down by a lightning in 1936. Numerous works of art, including those by Jacopo Dal Ponte (c.1510-1592), known as Bassano, and the works by Felice Cignaroli, the decorator of the convent compound, also fell into ruin. The only fragments remaining are some frescoes in the lunettes of the two sides of the cloister left, representing episodes of the Bible and the life of Saint Francis.
